Environmental Working Group (EWG) is the nation’s leading environmental health research and advocacy organization. For over 20 years, they’ve worked to bring attention to public issues surrounding safe drinking water, clean energy, and pesticide-free farming.

At Modern Kids Design, we make sure every product we sell takes the environment into consideration. EWG is responsible for expanding the definition of what Americans call “the environment” and we’d like to support them as much as possible through our donation program.

When we make conscious choices about the products we buy and the foods we eat, we often consider the impact of our actions on the global environment. Environmental Working Group has expanded the meaning of the environment in policy and practice to include the environment in our local communities and our home environment.

Believe it or not, the food we feed our families has an impact on the environment. We’re big fans of EWG because they’ve been at the forefront of advocating for pesticide-free farming and natural ingredients in foods. We’re super-excited to help spread the word about their Food Scores: Rate Your Plate website and app!

Many people have heard of EWG from the “Dirty Dozen” list of foods they publish to inform people about the toxic chemicals in our foods. Food Scores: Rate Your Plate takes EWG’s work to a whole new level. The new tool is the most comprehensive food-rating database available to everyday people, with more than 80,000 foods from about 1,500 brands in a simple, searchable, online format.

Food Scores helps point you to the healthiest whole foods with the most natural ingredients. On an easy to understand scale, the system warns you about food that may have contaminants or toxic chemicals. We’re tired of confusing labels with “natural and artificial flavors”. Food Scores gives you the truth about products with misleading labels that confuse us into thinking we’re eating natural foods when we aren’t. EWG has put a lot of effort into the system and we’re proud to support the work that they do.
